DETROIT - On Thursday, February 13, Detroit, Wayne County Executive Warren Evans formally endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg. Evans has served as Chief Executive Michigan's most populated county since 2015. He also served as the county's top cop prior to his current role.

“I’m delighted to see so many of you from Wayne County here today,” said Evans. He addressed an audience of local Bloomberg supporters and media at the Manor conference center on Detroit's east side.

Evans believes that Bloomberg can beat Trump, and he says, 'that’s definitely what matters to me.'

Despite some policies that seem to target people of color in a negative way, Bloomberg’s popularity continues to rise in America’s urban communities. The growing list of prominent African American, Asian American, Latino, Middle Eastern, and Native American politicians, entrepreneurs, clergy and academics have become quite impressive and somewhat alarming for his political opponents.

Evans made it quite evident during his endorsement of Bloomberg, saying that Michigan is “a state we will have to win in November if we’re going to beat Donald Trump.”

Bloomberg, who is a billionaire, built a media and financial services empire before turning to politics, where he served three terms as New York Mayor from 2002-2013.

During the time as mayor, Bloomberg created a controversy with his 'Stop and Frisk' policy which targeted young Black and Hispanic men. Under the program, New York City police officers made it a routine practice to stop and search multitudes of these two groups of men to see if they were carrying weapons.

Bloomberg continues to apologize for his support for the practice when he entered the race late last year, but comments from 2015 that surfaced earlier this week in which he defended stop and frisk in stark terms renewed attention on the controversial part of his New York legacy.

Here is a recent list of Michigan leaders who have endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg for president.
