DETROIT - Opening day for the 2018 NAIAS offered up some of the mildest weather seen in years, which helped boost turnout, when in past years outside temperatures were commonly posted at sub-freezing levels.

Organizers said on Sunday that attendance for the first day of the Public Show on Saturday was 112,043, which increased a few thousand more than last year.

At opening weekend auto show goers had the opportunity to see up-close the vehicles and technologies that will shape the future automotive landscape. From muscle, AV's and EV's, to high-performance supercars and full-size trucks, NAIAS has something for everyone to enjoy.

“What a memorable experience as chairman to walk the show floor and witness the excitement and enjoyment from those attending our world-class show,” said Ryan LaFontaine, 2018 NAIAS chairman.

In the week leading up to Opening Weekend was Press Days where 5,100 members of the media from around the world witnessed unveils featuring all types of vehicles and filled with the latest technology, nearly 40,000 attendees during Industry Days and 13,000 guests attending the Charity Preview Gala, all ahead of the public show.

This year’s auto show will feature a parade of cars presented by The Parade Company, organizers of America’s Thanksgiving Parade. From now through Sunday, January 28 at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. daily, a parade on the main show floor will host luxury and performance automobiles, local personalities and even some clowns and special props.

A first ever on opening weekend was AutoMobili-D-Future Automotive Career Exposition (FACE) which connects people interested in working in all aspects of the mobility industry with AutoMobili-D companies. FACE was free of charge to job seekers on both Saturday and Sunday.

Earlier this year, Gov. Rick Snyder said, "The auto industry, like others, faces challenges in filling jobs it needs to further grow and innovate. The NAIAS is the perfect place for people who love cars and have in-demand skills to connect with industry representatives looking for talent."
