Free food safety resources now available for restaurateurs during National Food Safety Month

LANSING, MICH. – In its ongoing commitment to food safety, the Michigan Restaurant Association (MRA) and the National Restaurant Association (NRA) has announced this year’s National Food Safety Month (NFSM) theme, The Future of Food Safety. Free resources are available to restaurant operators at michiganfoodsafety.com/nfsm.

“Food safety resources are an essential service we provide to our members and to the overall industry,” said Justin Winslow, President and CEO of the Michigan Restaurant Association. “This September, we will be providing additional free tools for foodservice professionals to engage with their teams on how to best protect themselves and their guests with food safety practices. With over 440,000 foodservice jobs in the state, the culture of food safety is not just the responsibility of one person. It takes the entire team working together to make sure food is served safely and we are doing everything in our power to guarantee this happens.”

NFSM, recognized each September, was created in 1994 to heighten the awareness of food safety education. Each year, a new theme is featured with free training activities and posters for the restaurant and foodservice industry to help reinforce proper food safety practices and procedures. New training tools and resources are available for each week including activities, posters, infographics, and videos. The themes for each week include:
• Week 1: Regulations – Keep It Compliant!
• Week 2: Suppliers – Keep It Controlled!
• Week 3: Consumers – Keep It Safe!
• Week 4: Employees – Keep It up!

Additional resources can be found at FoodSafetyFocus.com. It is the online information and resource hub for the Food Safety & Industry Relations department of the NRA. This team stays on the cutting edge of food safety for the foodservice industry. The team is composed of individuals with diverse backgrounds in food service operations, regulatory affairs, industry suppliers, food manufacturing and food science. In addition to all the NFSM resources, FoodSafetyFocus.com provides thought-leadership, research and business tools to anyone within an operation who has a stake in food safety.
