Three
Detroit
teens
held on
$1
million
dollar
bond for
violent
crimes
in the
city
DETROIT

Saturday
afternoon,
Devon
Campbell,
15 and
Leontay
Welch,
15 both
of
Detroit
appeared
before
Magistrate
Sidney
Barthwell
Saturday
afternoon
in 36th
District
Court.
They
were
both
arraigned
on four
counts
Carjacking,
two
counts
of
Assault
and
Armed
Robbery,
four
counts
of
Assault
with
Intent
to
Murder,
two
counts
of
Felony
Firearm
and two
counts
of
Conspiracy.
The
charges
stem
from a 6
year-old
male
child
being
shot
during
the
course
of a
carjacking
alleged
to have
been
committed
by the
pair of
teens.
The
6-year-old
victim
was a
passenger
in his
25-year-old
mother's
2006
Pontiac
Gran
Prix
that was
being
driven
by a
male
friend.
It is
alleged
that
Welch
ran in
front of
the car
in an
effort
to slow
it down
and that
Campbell
allegedly
pointed
a weapon
at the
car and
shot
several
times .
The
shots
hit the
6-year-old
in the
leg and
the
lower
back.
The
child
was
taken to
a local
hospital
for
treatment
for
gunshot
wounds.
Campbell
and
Welch
were
also
arraigned
on
charges
in
connection
with a
carjacking
of a
2003
Monte
Carlo
that
took
place on
February
26,
2012, at
approximately
3:00
p.m.
involving
a
24-year-old
Detroit
female
in the
5100
block of
Bedford
in
Detroit.
They
have
been
charged
with
additional
counts
of
Carjacking,
Assault
with
Intent
to Rob,
Concealing
a Stolen
Motor
Vehicle,
Felony
Firearm
and
Possession
of a
Loaded
Weapon
in a
Car.
Devin
Campbell
has also
been
charged
with six
counts
Carjacking,
Assault,
, Armed
Robbery
and
Felony
Firearm,
in
connection
with two
other
incidents
during a
crime
spree on
February
26,
2012.
The two
were
ordered
to pay a
$1
million
dollar
bond or
sit in
jail
until a
March
8th
preliminary
hearing.
"We
always
deliberate
very
carefully
when
making
charging
decisions
on
juvenile
defendants.
In these
cases we
are
going to
try all
of them
as
adults.
The
collective
facts in
these
cases
are
particularly
heinous,
violent,
and show
a total
disregard
or
feeling
for
human
life,"
said
Prosecutor
Worthy.

appeared
in
Detroit's
36th
District
Court
and was
charged
as an
adult
with
first-degree
murder
and
felony
firearm.

The
second
case was
for 14
year-old
Joshua
Smith,
of
Detroit
who also
appeared
before
Magistrate
Sidney
Barthwell
Saturday
afternoon
in 36th
District
Court.
The
youth
was
charged
and
arraigned
with
First
Degree
Murder
and
Felony
Firearm
in
connection
with the
February
27, 2012
fatal
shooting
death of
his 36
year-old
mother,
Tamika
Andrea
Robinson.
The
boy's
uncle
and
victim's
brother,
Leshaun
Roberts,
told
Tell Us
Detroit
that he
forgives
his
nephew
despite
what
he's
accused
of doing
and
“only
God can
judge
him.”
Smith
allegedly
found a
gun in
the home
and shot
his
mother
multiple
times
after a
verbal
argument
that
occurred
in the
family
home
located
in the
5700
block of
Burns in
Detroit.
He left
the home
after
the
shooting,
but was
later
apprehended
by the
police
on the
same
day.
Smith
will
also be
tried as
an adult
on
charges
of First
Degree
Murder
and
Felony
Firearm.
He also
was
ordered
to pay a
$1
million
dollar
bond or
sit in
jail
until a
March
8th
preliminary
hearing.
