The charges stem from a 6 year-old male child being shot during the course of a carjacking alleged to have been committed by the pair of teens.

The shots hit the 6-year-old in the leg and the lower back. The child was taken to a local hospital for treatment for gunshot wounds.

Campbell and Welch were also arraigned on charges in connection with a carjacking of a 2003 Monte Carlo that took place on February 26, 2012, at approximately 3:00 p.m. involving a 24-year-old Detroit female in the 5100 block of Bedford in Detroit. The two were ordered to pay a $1 million dollar bond or sit in jail until a March 8th preliminary hearing.

"We always deliberate very carefully when making charging decisions on juvenile defendants. In these cases we are going to try all of them as adults. The collective facts in these cases are particularly heinous, violent, and show a total disregard or feeling for human life," said Prosecutor Worthy.
