DRIVE-BY
SHOOTING
DETROIT
–Detroit
police
have
arrested
Willie
Mack, a
16-year-old
male
they say
shot and
critically
wounded
a
13-year-old
girl
during a
gang-related
drive by
on
August
5th,
Chief
Warren
Evans
announced
today.
Investigators
say
Dreia
Davis
was shot
at the
corner
of Emery
and
Eureka
on the
city's
east
side
while
she
talked
to some
friends
at
approximately
10:00
p.m.
that
night.
Mack was
arrested
Saturday
afternoon
by
Detroit
Police
on
Glastonbury
street
after a
exhaustive
investigation
that
prompted
prosecutors
to sign
a
nine-count
warrant
for his
arrest.
He was
waived
as an
adult
today
and
arraigned
in 36th
District
Court on
charges
of
assault
with
intent
to
commit
murder,
assault
with
intent
to
commit
great
bodily
harm
less
than
murder,
felony
firearms,
felonious
assault,
and
carrying
a
concealed
weapon
in a
motor
vehicle.
Mack
also was
charged
with an
additional
20-year
felony
under a
recently
enacted
law
making
it a
felony
to
commit a
crime
under
the
auspices
of an
organized
gang. He
is
alleged
to be a
member
of the 8
Mile
Boyz
gang.
Chief
Evans
thanked
his
investigators,
as well
as DPD
cadets
and a
group of
volunteer
residents
who went
door to
door in
that
neighborhood
seeking
information
and
tips.
"Dreia
was an
innocent
bystander,
which
makes
this
case all
the more
heartbreaking,"
said
Chief
Evans,
who
visited
with
Dreia's
family
at the
hospital
the
night of
the
shooting.
"Our
investigators
never
gave up
trying
to find
the
person
responsible
for this
reprehensible
crime.
Our
thoughts
and
prayers
continue
to go
out to
Dreia
and her
family."
