MDOT holds up on lighting upgrade along I-94 in Detroit until after July 4th holiday weekend

DETROIT - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is delaying the start of a lighting project involving two miles of I-94 in Detroit until after the July 4th holiday weekend. The project that begins on Tuesday, July 6, includes replacement of more than two-dozen light poles, lighting foundations, median barrier wall and nine tower lights along I-94 between I-96 and I-75.

The project is expected to begin on Tuesday, July 6 and will be split into two separate phases; the first between I-96 and M-10, the second between M-10 and I-75. Each phase is expected to take five weeks to complete, and will require a continuous left-lane closure.

Tower lighting replacement will require some short-term ramp closures at the I-94 interchanges at I-96, M-10, and I-75. When ramp closures are needed, detours will be posted.

This $1.8 million project is expected to be completed in early September.

For up-to-date information on this project, go to the list of statewide lane closures at:
