DETROIT - On July 13, Summer School classes will resume Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and run through August 6. Registered students received an assignment letter in early July via email, with details on where they will report, in order to start the Summer School program.

It is the first time schools will welcome back students for face-to-face instruction since the District closed earlier this year in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Superintendent Nikolai Vitti said he sees a "desperate demand" for in-person learning, and that online teaching isn't a "one size fits all" approach. "The online learning wasn't ideal, and our children have fallen farther behind," Vitti told the media.

In the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, students and staff will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing during the Summer School program. Other precautions being taken by the District to ensure safety include the daily disinfecting of classrooms and buses as well as smaller class sizes. A 10-15 student to adult ratio will be enforced in classrooms for the Summer School program.

DPSCD will continue to provide meals to students. Breakfast will be provided from 8 a.m.-8:30 a.m. each day during the Summer School program, and students will receive their lunch as they are exiting for the day. Please note, DPSCD is still serving breakfast and lunch at its Grab and Go meal sites for families.

The School System request that any student who did not receive an assignment letter, to please contact the DPSCD Help Desk at (313) 240-4377 to be provided school and classroom assignment information.

For Summer School 2020, the District is offering two options for learning:

- Face to Face, in-person learning at the following schools.
- Distance/virtual learning view online resources here.
