Mayor Mike Duggan Joins Comcast for Day of Volunteerism in Detroit

DETROIT - Mayor Mike Duggan will join 125 Comcast employees and other community members to make change happen as they volunteer to improve the 7 Mile and Van Dyke neighborhood, which surrounds the S.A.Y. Detroit Play Center, as part of the 17th annual Comcast Cares Day.

Volunteers will be cleaning up the nearby alley adjacent to the S.A.Y. Center nearby streets and business areas; revitalizing garages and buildings with fresh coats of paint; beautifying the 7 Mile corridor by cleaning up debris, fixing fences and planting flowers; cleaning up abandoned lots and painting wooden boards on vacant houses; and, at the S.A.Y. Detroit Play Center, painting a mural and adding new planters with flowers to freshen up the area for spring.

Comcast Cares Day is more than just a day – it is a celebration and opportunity to spotlight Comcast’s year-round commitment to volunteerism. This year also marks a significant milestone of Comcast Cares Day – reaching 1 million volunteers nationwide since the program began in 2001.

David L. Cohen, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer of Comcast Corp., will surprise two nonprofit organizations with grants totaling $25,000.

The event will be held Saturday, April 21, 8:30 a.m. – noon at S.A.Y. Detroit Play Center on Detroit's eastside.
