Southwest Solutions to host inaugural gala celebrating social impact and service to Detroiters

DETROIT – Since its start in 1970, Southwest Solutions has improved the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in metro Detroit through its social, economic and human services programs. On Friday, September 14, the non-profit will celebrate its work in the community at the inaugural Celebration of Impact Gala at the MGM Grand Detroit Hotel, from 6:00 p.m. until midnight.

WDIV Local 4 News Anchor Evrod Cassimy is the emcee for the fundraising event, which will honor two social impact leaders: John Van Camp, retired Southwest Solutions President & CEO, and Nancy Schlichting, retired CEO of Henry Ford Health System. They will receive the inaugural Clement Kern Awards for Social Impact.

“Father Kern founded Southwest Solutions as a small community mental health agency in southwest Detroit, and he dedicated his life to serving the city and its residents,” said Steve Ragan, senior vice president for development and external relations at Southwest Solutions. “It’s fitting that we honor his legacy and build on his commitment to social justice by recognizing those in the community who are creating social impact that changes lives.”

Celebration of Impact has already generated more than $500,000 from sponsorship packages and ticket sales. Proceeds will support Southwest Solutions’ work in community mental health, neighborhood development, job training and other programs that strengthen individuals and communities.

The fun-filled evening gets underway at 6:00 p.m. with a VIP honoree reception, followed by a three-course dinner, awards program, auction, and after party featuring live music and a high-flying performance by Detroit Circus.

The Founding Event Sponsor for the evening is the Edward C. and Linda Dresner Levy Foundation. Other major sponsors include: Fifth Third Bank, Lear Corporation, MGM Grand Detroit, Sam L. and Judith G. Yaker Fund, Walgreens Boots Alliance, Behavioral Health Professionals Inc., JPMorgan Chase, and NeighborWorks America.
