  Suburbanite and Detroiter charged with trash dumping in Detroit

You Dump in Detroit, You will be caught!

DETROIT – The Detroit Police Department’s successfully identified and arrested two individuals caught dumping materials in the city of Detroit.

On November 5 2018, Investigators from the General Assignment unit received information that a suspect driving a red Chevy pickup truck was seen dumping 2 mattresses in the southwest area of Detroit. An investigation was conducted and a warrant submitted and approved. On November 11 2018 the suspect was located, and arrested for Littering. His vehicle used in the act was impounded.

Suspect Identified as: Fidel Acosta-Jimenez of Detroit, Michigan was charged with Littering, issued a blight violation of $500 and his vehicle was impounded.

Additionally, on October 24 2018, in the 700 block of E. McNichols a witness immediately notified officers of an illegal dumping of tires. Officers were provided cellphone footage of a gray 2009 Chevrolet van dumbing tires on the city’s east side. Officers conducted an investigation and was able to locate the vehicle. The officer initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle which was still in the area. The driver of the van admitted that he dumped tires and was still in possession of tires when the vehicle was stopped. As a result of the community’s assistance and the officer’s investigation, the suspect was arrested and his vehicle impounded.

Suspect Identified as: James Derwa of Warren, Michigan, was charged with Littering, issued a blight violation of $200 and his vehicle impounded.

Since the inception of the illegal dumping initiative there has been 208 warrants issued, 86 arrests made, 190 blight violations issued, 102 vehicle impounded. The General Assignment Unit which investigate these crimes, has a 92% closure rate. Your call matters!
