Award
for 50
Years of
giving
back to
the
community

Dr.
Charles
G. Adams
will
celebrate
his 50th
Anniversary
as
pastor
of
Hartford
Memorial
Baptist
Church
(HMBC)
Friday,
May 3,
at
Detroit
Marriott
Hotel. A
very
unique
celebration
since
Pastor
Adams is
only the
third
minister
in the
pulpit
of HMBC
in its
100 year
history
(Hartford
is a
Michigan
Historical
site).
During
his
tenure,
he has
taken
the
church
membership
from 400
members
to
nearly
10,000
members.

year we

particularly
pleased
as we
will
honor an
individual
whose
very
name and
international
fame is
synonymous
with a
lifetime
of
achievement,”

Charles

Johnson
Lifetime
Achievement
Award.”
Dr.
Adams is
well
known
nationally
for his
delivery
of
memorable
addresses
in the
eulogies
of
prominent
Detroiters;
Detroit
Mayor
Coleman
Young;
Rosa
Parks,
Mother
of the
Civil
Rights
Movement
and
Esther
Gordy
Edwards,
sister
of Berry
Gordy,
founder
of
Motown.
NBC
television
personality
Ellen
DeGeneres
aired
the
Thank
You
ending
of his
prayer
in multi
languages
on her
program
immediately
following
the Rosa
Parks
service.
The
Detroit
Celebration
for
Nelson
Mandela,
Pastor
Adams
electrified
a packed
Tiger
Stadium
with his
heroic
speech.
His
reputation
precedes
him
across
the
country.
He has
been
featured
in Ebony
Magazine
for his
community
economic
recovery.
Dr.
Adams
has lead
the way
to
community
development
by
purchasing
commercial
real
estate
along W.
Seven
Mile Rd.
to
launch
new fast
food
restaurant
sites
such as;
McDonald’s,
Subway,
Kentucky
Fried
Chicken
and
other
businesses;
Thus,
creating
jobs in
the
community.
Also
on
Hartford
property
Home
Depot
that
provides
employment
and a
tax base
for the
city and
state.
On other
church
properties
Hartford
established
the Head
Start
Agency,
a
Tutorial
Program
and the
Hartford
Institute
for
Biblical
Studies.
Most
recently
in his
quest to
improve
the
neighborhoods
surrounding
HMBC,
Dr.
Adams
built
the
first
senior
citizens
gated
community
in
Detroit,
known as
Hartford
Village.
This
well
planned
senior
community
with 39
independent
living
cottages
and 45
independent
1 & 2
bedroom
apartments
with 24
hour
security
is a
welcome
addition
to the
Seven
Mile
-Meyers
community.
In
2007,
Dr.
Adams
was
selected
as the
first
professor
of the
Practice
of
Ethics
and of
Ministry
at
Harvard
University.
His full
teaching
schedule
at
Harvard
did not
prevent
his
weekly
delivery
of his
sole
–saving
sermons
at
Hartford.
