DETROIT - The Institute for Advanced Pastoral Studies, a diverse and ecumenical network of leading pastors in Metro Detroit organized by Hartford Memorial Baptist Church and Christ Church Cranbrook will host a Zoom webinar with Charles M. Blow of The New York Times and Professor Angela Dillard of The University of Michigan to discuss racial disparities, inequity, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Rev. Charles Christian Adams (Hartford Memorial Baptist Church) and the Rev. Dr. William J. Danaher Jr. (Christ Church Cranbrook) will participate as panelists. This important, informative Webinar will take place on Wednesday, April 29 at 7 pm.

“The COVID-19 pandemic will require pastors and other religious leaders in Metro Detroit from every social sector to rethink how they exercise their leadership,” said The Rev. Dr. William J. Danaher, Jr. “Given the high level of infection in Metro Detroit, and the disproportionate burden of the pandemic being borne by African Americans here, it will be impossible for pastoral leaders to move forward with our work unless we address this urgent issue in a timely way.”

“Many of our congregations are located in the viral ‘hotspots’- areas where race and lack of privilege have left these pastors and congregations vulnerable physically and economically,” said the Rev. Charles Christian Adams, “Therefore it is imperative for us to hear from Charles M. Blow, who has been a leading voice regarding the intersectionality of race, poverty, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Angela Dillard also knows the religious landscape in Detroit better than anyone, so this will be a vital conversation for us to have.” Hartford Church is one of the oldest and well respected churches in the nation.

This webinar will address the following topics:
• The racial disparities and inequities that have contributed to the disproportionate number of African Americans affected by COVID-19
• What new partnerships and paradigms might develop as a result of this pandemic
• How the COVID-19 pandemic is shaping our common life now, and in the future
• How religious leaders can continue to work together to address the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath
. What role can all faith communities play right now?
Additional Panelists include Dr. Angela Dillard (University of Michigan), the Rev. Charles Christian Adams (Hartford Memorial Baptist Church) and Manisha Dostert (Christ Church Cranbrook). The Rev. Dr. William J. Danaher, Jr. (Christ Church Cranbrook) will moderate.
This webinar is presented by the Institute for Advanced Pastoral Studies, Hartford Memorial Baptist Church and Christ Church Cranbrook.
