tells
School

fix your
problem
now
Your
tactics
are
taking
down the

Wayne
Westland
Community
Schools
Board of
Education
President
David
Cox
36745
Marquette
Westland,
MI 48185
Dear
President
Cox:
I have
watched
and
listened
as the
current
troubles
the
Wayne-Westland
School
District
is
facing
have
unfolded,
along
with the
rest of
the
community.
While I
understand
the
board’s
responsibility
to
investigate
allegations
made by
the
public
against
Dr.
Holt, I
must
express
my deep
concern
with the
way the
Superintendent,
the
District’s
CEO, has
been
treated.
The
Wayne-Westland
School
District
has
faced
many
challenges
over the
years
and Dr.
Holt did
not step
in to an
easy
position
with a
moderate
climate.
As
elected
officials,
I am
sure you
can
understand
that an
individual’s
actions
and
methods
for
change
are not
always
viewed
favorably
by the
public,
particularly
when
tough
choices
need to
be made.
I
understand
that the
allegations
with
regard
to Dr.
Holt
came
from the
public,
not the
School
Board.
With
that
said, I
believe
that
there is
a proper
way to
investigate
the
public
allegations
against
the
Superintendent;
one that
maintains
the
professionalism
and
decorum
of the
district
and
allows
Dr. Holt
to be
treated
with the
respect
she
deserves
as an
employee
of the
district.
The
process
must
also be
transparent,
fair and
swift.
If in
the end,
the
Board
decides
that a
change
in
leadership
is
needed,
there is
certainly
a
professional,
compassionate
way to
do that
without
ruining
careers,
tearing
apart
the
fabric
of the
community
or
creating
a
hostile
working
and
learning
environment.
This
process
has
damaged
an
already
fragile
District
and has
resulted
in a
potential
costly
lawsuit
and
action
by the
Wayne
County
Circuit
Court.
The
Wayne-Westland
Community
has put
faith in
the
Board of
Education
through
the
elections
of
Trustees
and has
backed
that
faith
with
their
tax
dollars
with the
recent
passing
of a 25
year
$158
million
dollar
bond
renewal.
Please
don’t
take
that
faith
lightly
and
remember
that the
students
of the
district
are
watching
this
situation
and how
individuals
are
treated
will
have a
lasting
effect
on them.
This is
an
important
time, as
the
Administration
must
prepare
the
staff
and
facilities
for the
upcoming
school
year.
There is
much
work to
be done,
and the
Board
must
remain
laser
focused
on the
best
interest
of the
11,000
students.
I
implore
the
Board
and the
Superintendent,
or their
respected
representatives
to meet
and
resolve
these
issues
in a
professional
businesslike
manner
ASAP.
The
community,
students,
media
and
others
are
watching
how this
process
unfolds.
As
Mayor,
please
know
that I
stand
ready to
help in
any
manner
possible.
Please
let me
know how
I can
add
value or
be of
assistance
to bring
a swift
resolution
to this
situation
so
attention
can
remain
focused
on
preparing
for the
upcoming
school
year, as
well as
restoring
the
community’s
trust.
Sincerely,
William
R. Wild
Mayor,

Westland
