Rep. Liz Cheney won't lie, making her unfit for Republican leadership

Opinion: Telling the truth about the election and Donald Trump doesn't fit in with Republican 'ideals.' Just ask Arizona's Rep. Andy Biggs.

Rep. Liz Cheney, chair of the House Republican Conference, third highest ranking member of her party, is about to be cast out of her position for having done something that cannot, and will not, be tolerated in a member of the GOP leadership team:

She told the truth.

Even worse, she told the truth about the presidential election and … Donald Trump.

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy said of Cheney, “I think she’s got real problems. ... I’ve had it with her. ... I’ve lost confidence.”

Cheney won't say the election was stolen

Cheney, who represents Wyoming, was among 10 Republican members of the House to vote to impeach Trump for having incited a riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6.

She said of her vote, “There has never been a greater betrayal by a president of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution.”

As for the election, she has condemned the ongoing attack on the November results (as is happening in places like Arizona.)

At a recent conference in Georgia Cheney said, “We can’t embrace the notion the election is stolen. It’s a poison in the bloodstream of our democracy. We can’t whitewash what happened on January 6 or perpetuate Trump’s big lie. It is a threat to democracy. What he did on January 6 is a line that cannot be crossed.”

Cheney seems to have crossed a different line.

Republicans want partisans. They do not want truth tellers.

Biggs says Cheney violated GOP 'ideals'

Rep. Liz Cheney on April 20, 2021, in Washington, D.C.

This explains why Arizona’s own Rep. Andy Biggs has said of Cheney, “I don’t think she should be the chair of the Republican conference anymore. The reality is she’s not representing the conference; she’s not representing the Republican ideals.”

Ideals?

That’s what you call them?

Cheney, the daughter of the former vice president, is as partisan as they come. Consider just a few of the things she’s said recently in newsletters and press releases.

They include:

“At every opportunity, the Biden Administration and Congressional Democrats are working to take power away from the American people …”

And:

“Since President Biden took his oath of office in January, Democrats in Washington have repeatedly attempted to abuse their power …”

And: “(Biden) has turned his back on that laudable goal to pursue an agenda that runs counter our shared conservative principles in Wyoming …”

And:

“Our Adversaries Are Testing President Biden & He’s Responding With Weakness.”
Apparently, truth violates GOP 'ideals'

Cheney is a true conservative believer. She comes by her partisanship honestly.

But she will not use that partisanship as an excuse to deny what she knows to be true.

Her spokesman Jeremy Adler said, “This is about whether the Republican Party is going to perpetuate lies about the 2020 election and attempt to whitewash what happened on Jan 6. Liz will not do that …”

This makes her ineligible to hold a GOP leadership position, since truth violates the party’s “ideals.”

Just ask Andy Biggs.
