DETROIT – Blake Griffin wiped his face in disappointment – or disbelief – when Buddy Hield’s 3-point buzzer beater glided through the net as the final game buzzer rang through the stadium. Hield and the rest of the Sacramento Kings ran off the court in excitement for their 103-101 victory against the Detroit Pistons Saturday night at Little Caesars Arena.

The Pistons led through most of the game until the fourth quarter when the Kings hit an 11-0 run and used Hield’s (35 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists) lethal 3-pointers to shake off the Piston’s defense. Several of the Piston’s bench-mob played in todays game including Zaza Pachulia who filled-in for an injured Andre Drummond.

Pachulia had 7 points and 3 assists in his season-high 35 minutes of game time but cost the team an opportunity to score when he delivered two bad passes in the end of the third quarter resulting in 2 turnovers.

Luke Kennard limped off the court in the third quarter after he dinged his knee but not before scoring key 3-pointers that helped the Pistons hold onto their lead and end the period up 8 points.

Kennard scored half of his total game points (19) before halftime. Pistons head coach Dwane Casey said Kennards energy in the first half is what cushioned their lead.

“Luke (Kennard) was playing so well and was giving such a punch in the arm because he was being aggressive in the first half,” said Casey. “but we got to continue when it’s crunch time.”

In the first half of the game the Pistons were able to stop many of the small and quick Kings players efforts to fastbreak. But Pachulia said the back to back drives up and down the court eventually got to them and that cost them a victory.

Griffin, who totaled 38 points, was wiped out by the 4th quarter and with being one foul away from getting ejected may have played it a little too safe in the end. But it was ultimately the absence of Drummond and Ish Smith that hurt the Pistons the most as an unguarded Hield put up two 3-pointers and stole the game.

Next, the Pistons play the Washington Wizards on Monday at 2pm in Little Caesars Arena.
