Castellanos
wins the
game for
the
Tigers
with a
walk-off
blast in
the 10th
inning

DETROIT
- After
the
Tigers
7-5 loss
to the
Blue
Jays at
home on
Saturday,
the
Tigers
immediately
sent Zac
Reininger
to
Triple A
Toledo,
while
recalling
Tyler
Alexander
from the
Mud
Hens.
Reininger
pitched
for one
and a
third of
an
inning
in the
first
game of
the
series
against
Toronto,
allowing
three
hits and
four
earned
runs.
Today,
Alexander
actually
had a
really
good
outing.
Alexander
seemed a
little
rusty to
start
things
off,
however
finishing
strong
pitching
seven
full
innings
and
allowing
only one
run.
To
start
things
off,
Freddy
Galvis
for the
Blue
Jays was
able to
get on
base
quickly
in the
top of
the
first
inning.
Then it
was
Lourdes
Gurriel
Jr. with
a double
that
sent
Galvis
home for
the
first
run of
the
game.
The Blue
Jays
weren’t
able to
hold on
to that
lead for
that
long, as
the
Tigers
were
able to
load the
bases
with 0
outs in
the
bottom
of the
second.
Bobby
Wilson
was able
to get a
grounder
off
towards
third
and help
Brandon
Dixon
score
the
first
Tigers
run.
Wilson’s
grounder
however
resulted
in a
double
play,
making
that the
lone
scored
run in
the
inning
that
started
off well
for the
Tigers.
It
was tied
at one
going
into the
bottom
of the
third,
where
the
Tigers
were
able to
take the
lead.
Jacoby
Jones,
who was
the man
of the
hour,
was at
bat
first.
Jones
hit a
single,
and then
designated
hitter
Nicholas
Castellanos
hit a
ground
rule
double,
in which
Jones
advanced
to
third. A
ground
out by
Jeimer
Candelario
allowed
Jones to
advance
home to
give the
Tigers
the lead
at 2-1.
In
the top
of the
fifth
inning,
it
appeared
as if
Toronto’s
Brandon
Drury’s
center
field
bomb was
going to
go out
of the
park.
Jones
had a
spectacular
catch
that
saved
the
homerun
over the
center
field
wall.
That
swagger
carried
Jones on
into the
bottom
of the
fifth,
when he
hit a
398 ft.
home run
towards
right
field.
That
home run
energized
the
crowd,
as the
Tigers
increased
their
lead
3-1.
Candelario
had an
impressive
catch of
his own
on
Vladimir
Guerrero
Jr.’s
line
drive in
the top
of the
seventh.
Even Joe
Jimenez
pitched
solidly
after
Alexander
was
pulled,
who went
1-2-3 in
the top
of the
eighth.
The
Tigers
seemed
to have
things
under
control
for once
at
Comerica
Park.
It
was a
drama
filled
ending
to the
game
that had
both
Tigers
and Blue
Jays
fans on
their
feet. In
the top
of the
ninth,
Shane
Greene
was
called
in.
Greene
has
normally
been
reliable
all
season,
and you
can
almost
always
count on
Greene
for a
save.
Not the
case
today,
as
Gurriel
Jr. hit
a home
run with
a man on
base
already,
making
it 3-3.
After
the
Tigers
went
scoreless
in the
bottom
of the
ninth,
fans
were
leaving
Comerica
Park
with the
reputation
of the
Tigers
bullpen
in their
minds.
You
can’t
blame
them, as
I point
out that
the
Tigers
have the
worst
record
in the
major
leagues.
The fans
that
decided
to stay
under
the hot
sun at
Comerica
Park
were
rewarded
though,
as
Castellanos
was
celebrated
with his
tenth
inning
walk-off
home
run, and
the
Tigers
won the
game
4-3.
Next
game:
Vs.
Philadelphia
on
Tuesday,
July
23rd.
The
Tigers
Matthew
Boyd
(6-8)
will
start
against
the
Phillies
Aaron
Nola
(8-2).
First
pitch is
at 7:10
pm
