DETROIT - The magic of the Holiday Season is captured every year on Woodward Avenue as we all watch with delight this exciting, magical, traditional launch of the holiday season. Whether watching from your living room or viewing the parade live on Woodward Avenue “The Thanksgiving Parade” is a Holiday tradition in Detroit and a wonderful sight to behold.

Themed this year “Our Great City! Detroit!!” America’s Thanksgiving Parade presented by Gardner White is featured annually on WDIV Local 4, including a one-hour syndicated national broadcast reaching more than 185 television markets across the country. 760 WJR’s Paul W. Smith and WOMC 104.3 also broadcast parade shows.

Voted America’s Number One Holiday Parade by the 2018 and 2019 USA TODAY, 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards, America’s Thanksgiving Parade® presented by Gardner White will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 24.

"We look forward to Grand Marshals Jalen Rose and Reverend Wendell Anthony leading America’s Thanksgiving Parade presented by Gardner White down Woodward Avenue on Thanksgiving morning," Tony Michaels, president and CEO of The Parade Company, said in a statement. "Both are incredible community leaders who exemplify all things great in our city. It is a thrill to honor them in this year’s parade."

Rev. Wendell Anthony is Detroit NAACP President and this year, Wayne State University conferred upon Rev. Anthony the degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa. He has been Pastor of Fellowship Chapel since 1986. And University of Michigan "Fab Five" basketball legend Jalen Rose.

Rose and Anthony will lead the 96th annual parade as it returns to Woodward Avenue Nov. 24 Thanksgiving Day. Officials said this year's theme is "Our Great City! Detroit!!" The parade is sponsored by Gardner White.

There are so many exciting events leading up to this annual jaw dropping main event, and each one is an exciting event you won’t forget; Hob Knobble Gobble, on Friday night, The Turkey Trott early on Thanksgiving morning just before the parade begins. and of course, the 31st annual Skillman Float Design Contest. This year's Skillman Foundation Float Contest theme is, "A Perfect World, Built by Kids!” It is amazing to unwrap the creative designs that young students come up with each year. Unfortunately, only one design is selected when there are so many creative, well-done designs.

The Hob Nobble Gobble event on Friday night was a magical night in Detroit when adults can enjoy the delightful fantasies of the holiday season all under one roof. Imagine; Stars, dancing, endless games, carnival rides, cotton candy and other wonderful treats all on the 50 yard line at Ford Field. This festive night of family fun and fantasy is an important fundraiser for America’s Thanksgiving Parade, which is a holiday tradition in Detroit and one of the country’s oldest and most celebrated parades.

Also on Friday, The Skillman Foundation and The Parade Company announced the winner of the 31st Annual Float Design Contest, Tahiry Gosby, a 4th grader from Emerson Elementary-Middle School. The winning float titled “World Business Design” will be showcased in the Thanksgiving Parade on Thursday. Also, five Detroit students were awarded honorable mentions, and their incredible work will be displayed around the border of the float.

“Our purpose at The Skillman Foundation is to listen to young people and to support them to achieve their boldest dreams. In turn, they inspire us with their creativity, tenacity, positivity, and their fresh take on what’s possible for our collective future. That’s exactly what this float design contest is all about. We reached out to Detroit kids and asked them what a world designed by youth would look like. We’re ecstatic to see their genius come to life,” said Angelique Power, president & CEO of The Skillman Foundation.

“The Skillman Foundation float unveil is a special day for us each year at The Parade Company,” said Tony Michaels, president & CEO of The Parade Company. “It is a thrill to celebrate these incredibly talented young student artists and we look forward to showcasing the beautiful ‘World Bus Design’ float on Thanksgiving morning.”
