DETROIT
– The
Detroit
Jazz
Festival
Foundation
announced
Tuesday
it will
implement
enhanced
safety
procedures
at Hart
Plaza
and
expand
musical
programming
at the
Gretchen
C.
Valade
Jazz
Center
at Wayne
State
University
for the
2025
festival.
"Our
number
one
priority
is the
safety
of our
artists,
guests,
and
community,"
said
Chris
Collins,
president
and
artistic
director.
Security
Changes
and
Expanded
Programming
Festival-goers
should
expect
new
entry
and exit
lanes to
improve
flow.
All
guests
will
undergo
security
screening
with bag
checks,
while
outside
alcohol
will be
prohibited.
A VIP
entrance
has been
added.
Organizers
recommend
limiting
bags for
faster
entry.
The
Detroit
Jazz
Hall
will
feature
High
School
Jazz
Showcases
(Saturday-Monday
at noon)
and
Midtown
After
Hours
Specials
(Friday-Sunday
at 10:30
p.m.),
with
additional
security
and
accessible
parking
via
Wayne
State
campus.
The
world's
largest
free
jazz
festival
since
1980
draws
26% of
its
audience
from out
of
state.
Major
supporters
include
the
Gretchen
C.
Valade
Endowment,
DTE
Foundation,
Kresge
Foundation,
Rocket
Companies,
and
JPMorgan
Chase.
