- Mayor
Mary
Sheffield’s
walkthrough
at the
2026
Detroit
Auto
Show
highlighted
Detroit’s
automotive
heritage,
new EV
technology,
and the
show’s
economic
impact
on the
city.
She
mixed
hands-on
experiences
on the
floor
with
messages
about
jobs,
innovation,
and the
excitement
of
hosting
a global
auto
event in
the
Motor
City.
Sheffield
toured
Huntington
Place
before
public
opening,
noting
it was
her
first
time
seeing
the show
“behind
the
scenes”
as mayor
and
praising
the work
that
goes
into the
exhibits.
She
visited
major
automaker
displays,
including
Stellantis,
Ford,
and
General
Motors,
using
the
stops to
underscore
Detroit’s
leadership
in the
auto
industry.
The
mayor
took
part in
experiential
features,
including
a Jeep
Mountain
ride she
described
as
feeling
like a
rollercoaster,
and a
second
ride in
a luxury
Cadillac
EV built
at
Factory
Zero.
Sheffield
highlighted
electric
vehicles
and
next-gen
technology
as
central
to the
show,
pointing
to
indoor
EV
experiences
and
immersive
activations
that
showcase
automaker
innovation.
She
framed
Detroit
as a hub
for
future
mobility,
aligning
the
show’s
tech
focus
with the
city’s
broader
push on
advanced
manufacturing
and
mobility
jobs.
The
mayor
stressed
that the
show
brings
significant
economic
activity
to
Detroit,
from
hotel
and
restaurant
spending
to jobs
tied to
staging
the
multi-day
event.
She
noted
the
show’s
ongoing
support
for
local
charities
and
family-friendly
programming,
tying it
to
Detroit’s
image as
a
welcoming
destination
for
visitors
of all
ages.
Sheffield
said she
was
“excited
to be
here”
and to
experience
the
Motor
City
with
“fresh
new
eyes” as
mayor,
linking
her
personal
history
of
attending
the show
growing
up to
this new
role.
Her
walkthrough
message
centered
on pride
in
Detroit’s
auto
legacy,
confidence
in its
future
in EVs
and
mobility,
and
gratitude
for the
regional
partners
who help
make the
show
possible
each
year.
