Event
Set for
Nov. 21

- The
22nd
annual
Detroit
Tree
Lighting,
presented
by DTE
Energy
Foundation
and
produced
by the
Downtown
Detroit
Partnership,
returns
Friday,
Nov. 21,
to kick
off the
holiday
season
at the
award-winning
Campus
Martius
Park
from 4
p.m. to
9 p.m.
The
event
will
draw
over
100,000
visitors
featuring
more
than 1
million
sparkling
lights,
a
star-studded
entertainment
lineup
and the
ceremonial
lighting
of a
62-foot
Michigan-grown
Norway
spruce
adorned
with
oversized
ornaments
and
25,000
LED
lights.
"The
Detroit
Tree
Lighting
has
become
more
than a
tradition—it's
an
economic
engine
that
drives
foot
traffic
to our
downtown
retailers,
restaurants
and
small
businesses
during
the
critical
holiday
season,"
said
David
Cowan,
chief
public
spaces
officer
at the
Downtown
Detroit
Partnership.
"This
year's
event
will
shine
brighter
than
ever,
bringing
the
entire
community
together
while
celebrating
what
makes
Downtown
Detroit
special."
The tree
was
harvested
from the
property
of Scott
and Mary
Locklear
in
Mesick,
Northern
Michigan.
"For 22
years we
have
watched
the tree
grow a
little
bigger
and more
beautiful,"
the
Locklears
said.
"We're
so happy
and
proud to
share
its
beauty
with
everyone."
Multiplatinum
country
artist
BRELAND
headlines
the MGM
Grand
Detroit
Main
Stage,
bringing
infectious
energy
and
genre-blending
"cross
country"
sound to
holiday
classics.
Pop
singer-songwriter
Natalie
Jane,
who
boasts
over 10
million
TikTok
followers,
opens
the show
with
emotionally
raw
vocals
reminiscent
of Adele
and Amy
Winehouse.
Additional
performances
include
the
Urban
Arts
Orchestra
blending
live
strings,
brass
and
rhythm
with
soul,
hip-hop
and pop,
plus
Motown
Museum's
Hitsville
NEXT,
Broadway
in
Detroit's
"Phantom
of the
Opera"
vocalist,
Grosse
Pointe
Theatre's
"White
Christmas,"
and the
Cass
Tech
High
School
Madrigal
Choir.
U.S.
Olympic
figure
skater
Polina
Edmunds
headlines
ice
performances
on The
Rink at
Campus
Martius
Park,
joined
by
two-time
U.S.
national
medalist
Emmanuel
Savary
and
14-time
national
medalist
Khloe
Felton
from
Kalamazoo.
Skaters
from
nine
metro
Detroit
figure
skating
clubs
will
also
showcase
their
talents.
Food
trucks
featuring
various
cuisines
will
serve
visitors
while
supporting
Detroit's
small
business
community.
Admission
is free,
and
attendees
are
encouraged
to bring
new
gloves
or
mittens
to
donate
to
Mittens
for
Detroit,
a local
nonprofit
serving
children
and
adults
in need
throughout
the
area.
Event
capacity
is
expected
to be
reached
within
the
first
few
hours.
Attendees
are
encouraged
to
arrive
early
and can
access
convenient
parking
and
transit
options,
including
DDOT,
SMART
Bus,
Detroit
People
Mover
and
QLINE.
Just
blocks
away,
Beacon
Park
will
unveil
"Light
Up
Beacon
Park"
the same
evening
(5–9
p.m.),
featuring
a
20-foot
Michigan-grown
tree,
125,000+
holiday
lights,
and an
all-new
"Candyland"
winter
lighting
display
with a
gingerbread
house
and
picture-perfect
backdrops.
The tree
lighting
ceremony
begins
at 6:45
p.m.
The Rink
at
Campus
Martius
Park
opens
for the
2025-26
season
on
Saturday,
Nov. 22,
with
opening
weekend
celebration
events
Nov.
22–23
featuring
festive-themed
skate
parties
with
prizes
and
giveaways.
Voted
the No.
1
outdoor
ice
skating
rink in
the
U.S.,
The Rink
will
remain
open
daily
through
March 1,
2026.
