Charged
in
Homicide
of
Nine-Year-Old
Son
Prosecutor
Kym
Worthy
has
announced
charges
against
Brandee
Katrice
Pierce,
41, of
Detroit,
for the
homicide
of her
nine-year-old
son,
Zemar
King.
On
January
6, 2025,
around
1:22
p.m.,
Detroit
police
officers
were
called
to a
residence
in the
19700
block of
Woodingham
after
human
remains
were
discovered.
The
landlord,
who was
preparing
the
house
for a
new
tenant,
found a
shallow
grave
and
alerted
the
authorities.
Upon
arrival,
officers
discovered
the
remains
of a
child
buried
in the
backyard.
The
medical
examiner
determined
that the
cause of
death
was
homicide
due to
smothering
and neck
compression.
It is
alleged
that on
October
24,
2024,
Pierce
fatally
assaulted
her son,
Zemar,
and
subsequently
buried
his body
in the
backyard.
On
November
6, 2024,
she left
her
rental
home and
moved to
Georgia
with her
three-year-old
son.
On
December
20,
2024,
Brookhaven
Police
Department
in
Atlanta,
Georgia,
investigated
Pierce
for an
unrelated
matter
concerning
her
surviving
son and
notified
the
Detroit
Police
Department.
With
assistance
from the
Cobb
County
Sheriff's
Office,
the FBI,
and
Michigan
State
Police,
Detroit
police
investigated
Zemar's
homicide
and
arrested
Pierce
in
Georgia.
Prosecutor
Kym
Worthy
remarked,
"I have
been a
prosecutor
for a
long
time,
and I
often
say that
I have
seen it
all. The
horrors
of this
child
abuse
case
defy
that.
The
alleged
actions
of this
defendant
are
among
the most
callous
I have
seen and
hope
never to
see
again."
Brandee
Katrice
Pierce
faces
the
following
charges:
First-Degree
Murder,
Felony
Murder,
First-Degree
Child
Abuse,
Tampering
with
Evidence,
and
Concealing
the
Death of
an
Individual.
These
charges
were
authorized
by Judge
Aliyah
Sabree
on
February
4, 2025.
Pierce
will be
extradited
from
Georgia
to
Michigan,
and an
update
will be
provided
upon her
return.
