When it came time to decide on his wish, Davonte wished for a room redo featuring his favorite colors along with cars and trucks. (Make-A-Wish® Michigan Photo)

Make-A-Wish® Michigan receives gift from Schostak Brothers & Co. to Support Detroit Forward Focus aimed at reaching more children in Detroit

DETROIT, MI – Make-A-Wish® Michigan announced it received a $25,000 gift from Schostak Brothers & Co. to help grant wishes to Detroit children battling critical illnesses. The organization, which grants wishes to children in the entire state, recently launched Detroit Forward Focus to increase referrals for Detroit children through enhanced outreach and community engagement. The gift from Schostak Brothers & Co. is the first significant gift to support this vital effort. Image can be found here.

“We are so grateful for the generous support of Schostak Brothers & Co. as we diligently work to reach more Detroit children with the life-changing power of a wish,” said Michael Hull, Make-A-Wish Michigan president and CEO. “We believe that there are children and families in Detroit battling critical illness who are not aware that they qualify for a wish or how to start the referral process, and we are working to change that. Partnering with wonderful corporate supporters like Schostak Brothers & Co. will help ensure that Detroit children have equitable access to our mission and experience the transformational hope that a wish provides.”

Third generation Schostak Brothers, Bobby Schostak, Partner, Schostak Brothers & Co.; David Schostak, CEO, Schostak Brothers & Co.; and Mark Schostak, Executive Chairman of TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants state:

“We are in awe of the incredible team at Make-A-Wish Michigan who work tirelessly to grant life-changing wishes for critically ill children in our community. We are honored to support their remarkable work in providing once-in-a-lifetime experiences and memories for children and families in our hometown of Detroit.”

In June 2022, Schostak Brothers & Company announced they will mark their 100th anniversary with a community giving campaign to distribute $1 million across impactful Detroit-based nonprofit organizations. Selected from a range of nonprofit sectors including neighborhoods, workforce development, education, health and entrepreneurship, the goal of the initiative was to select organizations based on their work in Detroit, the city where the company was founded a century ago.

The gift recipients have been chosen through an extensive selection process involving Schostak employees, with the intent to aid the charity’s efforts while shining a light to reach other potential donors.

Make-A-Wish Michigan is locally based and expects to grant 475 wishes to Michigan children this year. A parent, legal guardian or medical professional can refer a child to Make-A-Wish Michigan who meets the following criteria: Between the ages of 2 ˝ to 18 at time of referral, diagnosed with a critical illness and has not received a wish from another wish-granting organization. Make-A-Wish Michigan grants wishes to children with critical illnesses across 12 different specialties. There is no cost to the wish child or family to receive a wish.
