DETROIT - Dorian Trevor Sykes, 41, of Detroit, was arrested on March 18, 2025, and charged with multiple counts of bank robbery and related crimes following two separate incidents. The arrest was announced by Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Michigan, alongside Sterling Heights Police Captain Mario Bastianelli and Lathrup Village Police Chief Scott McKee.

The first robbery occurred on March 6, 2025, at Credit Union One in Sterling Heights. According to court records, Sykes entered the bank around 11:50 a.m., approached the teller, and handed over a note demanding money. When the teller hesitated, he allegedly stated, "This is a robbery," and requested large bills. The teller complied, handing over approximately $10,169 before Sykes fled.

Six days later, on March 12, 2025, a similar incident took place at a Chase Bank in Lathrup Village around 4:40 p.m. Sykes allegedly presented a withdrawal slip with a threatening message: "Give me all the money… I have a gun… I will kill everyone in here." He also gestured toward his right side, implying he was armed. The teller handed over approximately $3,400 before Sykes fled. Witness descriptions and surveillance footage linked him to both crimes.

Special Agent Gibson underscored the serious nature of bank robberies, emphasizing their traumatic impact on employees and customers. He commended law enforcement agencies for their swift coordination in apprehending Sykes. Captain Bastianelli echoed the sentiment, crediting teamwork and intelligence-sharing for the successful investigation.

At the time of his arrest, Sykes was on federal supervised release after serving time for a 2020 bank robbery. If convicted of the new charges, he faces up to 20 years in prison. He appeared in federal court on March 18, 2025, and remains innocent until proven guilty.

The arrest was the result of a multi-agency investigation involving the FBI’s Macomb County Gang and Violent Crime Task Force, as well as local law enforcement agencies from Sterling Heights, Clinton Township, Lathrup Village, and Detroit. Additional support came from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Border Patrol, and Michigan State Police. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan is prosecuting the case.
