$1500 to
support
Blue
Hands
United,
launch a
sensory-friendly
room at
Islamic
Center
of
America
Fundraiser
was part
of the
school’s
Autism
Awareness
Month
observation
DEARBORN
HEIGHTS,
MI - The
students
of Star
International
Academy
(SIA)
have
shown
their
support
for
autism
awareness
by
raising
$1,500
for Blue
Hands
United,
a
non-profit
organization
that
supports
and
provides
resources
for
individuals
and
families
affected
by
autism
and
other
developmental
delays.
"We are
proud of
our
students
and
their
dedication
to
making a
positive
impact
on the
lives of
individuals
and
families
affected
by
autism,"
said Dr.
Ali
Bazzi,
SIA
President
and
Superintendent
of
Hamadeh
Educational
Services.
"Their
efforts
have
inspired
others
to do
the
same,
and we
will
continue
promoting
autism
awareness
and
support
in our
community."
To
promote
autism
awareness,
the
students
created
a video
informing
their
peers
about
autism
and sold
support
bracelets
during
their
lunch
periods.
They
also
decorated
the
school's
hallways,
bulletin
boards,
and
classroom
doors
with
messages
supporting
those
with
autism.
The
money
raised
will be
used to
establish
and run
a
sensory-friendly
room for
individuals
with
autism
at the
Islamic
Center
of
America,
as well
as
support
Blue
Hands
United's
upcoming
community
events.
These
events
include
the
Haddix
Award
for
exceptional
parents
who go
above
and
beyond
for
their
children
with
special
needs,
the 6th
Annual
Autism
Awareness
Event
“Sky's
the
Limit”,
and
other
events
for the
community
that
promote
awareness
and
inclusiveness.
