- Engine
roars,
the
sweet
smell of
race
fuel,
and 16
miles of
pure
Detroit
iron
dominated
Oakland
County
this
weekend
as an
estimated
1.5
million
gearheads
and more
than
40,000
classic
cars
took
over M-1
for the
31st
Annual
Woodward
Dream
Cruise.
From
screaming
big-block
muscle
and
chopped
hot rods
to
high-revving
tuners
and
blown
vintage
classics,
cruisers
rumbled
bumper-to-bumper
from
Ferndale
all the
way
north to
the
Pontiac
turnaround.
Nine
Mile
Road in
Ferndale
served
as a
primary
hub,
hosting
hundreds
of
late-model
and
classic
rides at
Mustang
Alley
alongside
the
Lights
and
Sirens
Parade
honoring
emergency
vehicles.
Ford
also
turned
heads by
lowering
the new
Mustang
Dark
Horse SC
onto
Woodward
via
crane
and
debuting
the new
Ford
Bronco
Filson
SUV
collaboration
at the
Bronco
Corral.
Berkley
set the
early
tempo
with its
signature
CruiseFest
parade
down
West 12
Mile
Road,
while
Royal
Oak drew
massive
crowds
to the
13 Mile
stretch
with
high-octane
factory
performance
displays.
High-end
classic
displays
lined
the
open-air
stretches
through
Birmingham,
leading
up to
Pontiac’s
heavy
tunes
and
full-throttle
energy
as the
northern
terminus.
To ease
heavy
congestion
along
M-1,
SMART
operated
free
shuttles
up and
down the
Woodward
corridor
throughout
the main
9:00
a.m. to
9:00
p.m.
cruising
window.
Meanwhile,
law
enforcement
presence
remained
heavy
across
all
participating
municipalities,
maintaining
a strict
zero-tolerance
approach
toward
burnouts,
reckless
driving,
open
alcohol
containers,
and
oversized
trailers.
With
main
event
hours
concluded
at 9:00
p.m.,
municipal
crews
began
clearing
temporary
barricades
and
reopening
key
cross-street
intersections,
including
Nine
Mile
Road, as
crowds
thinned
into the
late
evening.
