DETROIT,
MI -
Detroit
Employment
Solutions
Corporation
(DESC)
has
announced
the
appointment
of
Talitha
Johnson
as its
new
Communications
Director,
a move
the
agency
says
will
strengthen
its
outreach
to
employers
and
residents
seeking
workforce
development
opportunities.
Johnson,
who
joined
DESC in
mid-November,
will
oversee
all
communications,
branding,
and
media
relations
for the
agency's
programs,
including
the
Detroit
at Work
system
and Grow
Detroit's
Young
Talent
(GDYT).
The role
carries
responsibility
for
amplifying
employer
partnerships
and
expanding
pathways
for city
residents.
"We're
thrilled
to have
Talitha
join our
team,"
said
Dana
Williams,
President
of DESC.
"Her
talent,
energy,
and deep
commitment
to our
city
make her
an
invaluable
addition
to our
organization.
We're
confident
she'll
help us
share
the
powerful
work
DESC
does and
inspire
more
Detroiters
to seize
the
opportunities
we
create."
Johnson
comes to
DESC
from the
Downtown
Detroit
Partnership,
where
she
served
as
Director
of
Communications.
In that
role,
she
built
strategic
communications
campaigns
around
the
city's
revitalization
efforts,
managed
media
relations
with
corporate
partners,
and
helped
promote
major
community
events.
Her
appointment
comes as
DESC
continues
to
expand
its
workforce
development
reach
across
Detroit.
Since
launching
the
Detroit
at Work
system
in 2017
and
managing
Grow
Detroit's
Young
Talent
since
2015,
the
agency
has
become
the
central
hub for
the
city's
workforce
development
infrastructure,
operating
a
network
of
career
centers
and
providing
recruitment
services,
training
programs,
and
employment
pathways
aligned
with the
Mayor's
Workforce
Development
Board.
"Talitha
brings a
fresh
perspective
and
genuine
passion
for
lifting
up our
community,"
said
Terri
Weems,
Group
Executive
of
Workforce
Development
for the
City of
Detroit.
"Her
work
will
help us
tell the
inspiring
stories
of
Detroit
residents
succeeding,
showcase
the
talent
in our
workforce,
and
deepen
our
relationships
with
employers
who
believe
in our
city."
Johnson
is a
native
Detroiter
and
Wayne
State
University
alumna.
Before
joining
the
Downtown
Detroit
Partnership,
she
worked
with the
Detroit
Regional
Partnership,
Michigan
State
University,
and
UAW-Ford.
She
replaces
Robin
Johnston,
who
retired
after a
distinguished
tenure
with
DESC.
"I'm
honored
to join
DESC and
be part
of
something
so
meaningful,"
Johnson
said.
"This
city
raised
me, and
now I
get to
help
give
back by
connecting
people
to real
opportunities.
I can't
wait to
collaborate
with our
team and
community
partners
to make
a
difference
in
Detroiters'
lives."
