  Detroit Mayoral Forum Set to Ignite Election Conversations

DETROIT — As the 2025 Detroit mayoral race intensifies, residents will have an opportunity to hear from candidates during the “Run the City: Detroit Mayoral Forum” on May 15 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club, 16500 Tireman Ave.

Hosted by Our Own Wall Street, Black Women in Michigan Politics, Cody Rouge Community Action Alliance, and Michigan United, the forum is designed to foster transparent dialogue between mayoral hopefuls and Detroiters. The event will be a moderated discussion on critical issues such as economic development, public safety, education, housing, and community investment.

“This forum isn’t just about politics—it’s about the future of Detroit,” said Chenita W. Gary, founder and executive director of Our Own Wall Street. “We are creating a space where voters can engage directly with candidates, hold them accountable, and make informed decisions.”

Confirmed Mayoral Candidates:
• Fred Durhal III, member, Detroit City Council member
• James Craig, former police chief, Detroit Police Department
• Mary Sheffield, president, Detroit City Council
• Saunteel Jenkins, former Detroit City Council member and nonprofit CEO
• Todd Perkins, criminal defense attorney
Moderators:
• Freman Hendrix, former deputy mayor, City of Detroit
• Porsha Monique, journalist and community advocate
• JerJuan Howard, youth organizer and grassroots Leader

Candidates will deliver 3-minute opening statements and respond to questions submitted by both the audience and moderators. Community members, local leaders, and members of the media are encouraged to attend. Space is limited and registration is required.

Our Own Wall Street

Our Own Wall Street is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with an ecosystem designed to address the needs of communities by sharing resources and teaching soft skills facilitated by professionals and business owners. CRCAA is a community-based development organization with deep connections in the Detroit community. The Cody Rouge neighborhood has the second-highest population of children in Detroit, making youth engagement a critical focus. The organization has achieved significant success in youth development through leadership and enrichment programs, and in community engagement by uniting residents, families, and local organizations.

Michigan United

Michigan United is a broad, statewide coalition dedicated to fighting for racial and economic justice. The organization works on leadership development and advocacy to reform our broken immigration system, protect the environment, and end mass incarceration. Michigan United empowers its members to eradicate the root causes of systemic inequality and drive lasting change in communities across the state.
