DETROIT
- Mayor
Duggan,
along
with
city
officials
and
community
partners,
participated
in the
groundbreaking
ceremony
for the
East
Warren
Public
Market.
The
10,000
sq. ft.
public
market
is
designed
to
foster
community
engagement
and
support
business
development
in the
East
Warren
community.
The
project,
which
costs
$5.5
million,
is being
led by
the East
Warren
Development
Corporation
and is
made
possible
through
investments
from the
Strategic
Neighborhood
Fund,
the
Gilbert
Family
Foundation,
and the
Ralph C.
Wilson
Foundation.
The East
Warren
Public
Market
will
serve as
a
central
location
for
local
vendors
and
small
business
owners
to
network
and sell
their
products
throughout
the
year.
The
10,000-square-foot
building
will
include
a small
grocery
market,
retail
spaces
for
vendors
and
budding
entrepreneurs,
a
community
gathering
space,
and a
farmer’s
market.
Additionally,
it will
house
the
offices
of the
East
Warren
Development
Corporation,
an
organization
dedicated
to the
revitalization
and
progress
of the
E.
Warren
Corridor.
This new
business
venture
represents
another
significant
investment
in the
East
Warren
Ave
corridor,
one of
the
city’s
Strategic
Neighborhood
Fund
(SNF)
neighborhoods.
It is
one of
several
milestones
recently
celebrated
by the
community,
including
the
completion
of an
$8.8
million
streetscape,
the
opening
of
multiple
Motor
City
Match
businesses,
and
progress
on an
18-unit
affordable
housing
development.
