Year
with New
Decorating
Contest

DETROIT
— The
City of
Detroit
announced
Tuesday
that its
annual
Halloween
in the D
celebration
will
return
this
month
with
expanded
activities
across
the
city,
including
a new
block
club
decorating
contest
for
2025.
Mayor
Mike
Duggan
and city
officials
outlined
plans
for the
eighth
annual
event at
a news
conference
held at
Chandler
Park
Field
House on
Oct. 7,
detailing
activities
scheduled
for Oct.
25, Oct.
31, and
Nov. 8.
"When we
started
Halloween
in the D
in 2018,
we knew
it would
be
well-received.
Now it
has
grown
into a
cherished
tradition,
providing
fun for
thousands
of
children
in a
family-friendly
and safe
environment,"
Duggan
said.
"We are
so
grateful
to our
City
departments,
sponsors
and
volunteers
who make
this
annual
event a
highlight
of the
year."
New
Decorating
Contest
Debuts
The
city is
inviting
neighborhoods
and
block
clubs to
participate
in a new
Halloween
decorating
contest,
encouraging
residents
to
transform
their
streets
with
pumpkins,
cobwebs,
ghosts,
and
goblins.
Winning
blocks
will
receive
bragging
rights
and
prizes.
The
initiative
reflects
the
event's
growing
popularity
since
its 2018
debut.
Last
year,
Halloween
in the D
attracted
more
than
30,000
attendees,
distributed
over 1
million
pieces
of
candy,
and
engaged
more
than 700
volunteers.
Corporate
and
individual
donations
totaled
$104,000.
Halloween
Night
Activities
On
Oct. 31,
all 11
Detroit
Police
precincts
and 10
fire
department
locations
will
host
trunk-or-treat
events
from 4
to 8
p.m. at
various
times.
Additionally,
14
recreation
centers
will
offer
activities
including
haunted
houses,
carnival
games,
face
painting,
and arts
and
crafts.
The
Department
of
Neighborhoods
is
leading
the
effort
with
support
from
General
Services,
Police,
and Fire
departments.
Additional
Events
The
celebration
extends
beyond
Halloween
night
with two
major
park
events:
ScareFest
at
Palmer
Park on
Oct. 25
from 5
to 10
p.m.
will
feature
a Zombie
Trail of
Terror,
thrill
rides,
haunted
attractions,
inflatables,
food
trucks,
and
vendors.
Fall
Fest at
Williams
Park on
Nov. 8
from 1
to 5
p.m.
will
include
carnival
rides,
hay and
pony
rides, a
petting
zoo,
paintball,
rock
climbing,
zip
lining,
a coat
giveaway,
and food
trucks.
Sponsors
and
Volunteers
Needed
Michigan
Recreational
Construction
Inc.,
Rocket
Companies,
and
Major
Contracting
serve as
lead
sponsors
with
$5,000
donations
each.
Additional
sponsors
include
Blue
Cross
Blue
Shield,
DTE
Energy,
Detroit
Thermal,
and
Uncle
Rays,
among
others.

building
parks
and
playgrounds
for 28
years,
but our
most
meaningful
work has
been
right
here in
the city
of
Detroit,"
said
Craig
Sheffer,
MRC
President.

event
brings
excitement

magical
moments

Detroit,

of."
