DETROIT - Hartford Memorial Baptist Church is preparing to provide Thanksgiving meals to 500 families, offering turkeys with all the traditional fixings. This community goodwill event will take place on Wednesday, November 19, at the Hartford Food Pantry located at 14000 W. 7 Mile Road. Distribution will begin at 8 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Hartford Feed the Hungry program, in partnership with AAA of Michigan, will distribute free turkeys along with grocery bags filled with uncooked food items to complete the meals. Past events have seen lines forming as early as 4 a.m. as families seek to secure their holiday dinner.

Rev. Charles Christian Adams, senior pastor of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, shared, “Hartford Church continues to respond to an ever-growing need for families and individuals within our community. We will feed nearly 1,000 people through our annual Holiday Food Basket Program.”

Volunteers will also distribute warm socks and other essentials to the area's large homeless population. On Thanksgiving Day, following the church service, fully cooked meals will be prepared and packed for delivery to people living on the streets—individuals who often cannot access free holiday meals elsewhere. Hartford volunteers plan to deliver 500 hot meals directly to the homeless.

Deacon Jimmy Johnson noted, “Our volunteers go to street corners, freeway exits, under bridges, Cass Corridor, Belle Isle, and areas from the far Eastside to Southwest Detroit. We have been doing this for several years and have it organized down to the last meal.” Altogether, Hartford Memorial Baptist Church expects to serve more than 1,000 people during the Thanksgiving holiday.

For more information, visit the Hartford website at www.hmbcdetroit.org or call (313) 861-1285. The church is located at 18700 James Couzens.

This event exemplifies Hartford Memorial Baptist Church's ongoing commitment to meeting the needs of Detroit’s families and individuals in this holiday season.
