Massive Industrial Fire Engulfs Detroit Oil Processing Facility, Firefighter Injured

DETROIT — A large industrial fire is raging at an oil processing facility on Detroit's East Side Monday, sending towering flames and thick black smoke visible for miles across the city while injuring at least one firefighter.

The blaze erupted at Aevitas Specialty Services Corp. in the 600 block of Lycaste Street at Edlie Street, near Jefferson Avenue and the Great Lakes Water Authority facility. The company processes used oil from Detroit's Big Three automakers.

Witnesses described flames "shooting up in the air" as emergency crews rushed to the scene. The acrid smell of burning oil permeated the area, consistent with the facility's operations handling industrial waste oil.

Detroit Fire Department officials confirmed one firefighter sustained injuries while battling the flames, though the extent of those injuries has not been disclosed. Multiple fire companies remain on scene working to contain the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials have not provided an estimated timeline for when the fire will be fully extinguished.

This is a developing story. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
