DETROIT-
The Dave
Bing
Community
Park on
Detroit’s
Northwest
side is
now
officially
open to
the
public.
Dave
Bing
along
with
hundreds
of
supporters
and
community
leaders
came out
on
Sunday
September
3, to
attend
the
official
opening
celebration
along
with
several
of
Bing’s
former
Piston
teammates.
The
fun-filled
celebration
offered
something
for
everyone;
hot dogs
and
hamburgers
on the
grill,
ice
cream,
games
including
the
newly
designed
basketball
courts
and
tennis
courts,
and
Train
Rides
for the
kids.
Piston
Cheer
leaders
were on
hand to
assist
with the
activities.
And the
event
would
have
been
incomplete
without
Hooper.
Hooper
the
Detroit
Piston’s
Mascot
always
steals
the
show.
The Dave
Bing
Community
Park
will pay
tribute
to the
social
commitment
and
community
work of
the
former
Detroit
mayor,
Detroit
Pistons
Hall of
Famer,
and
entrepreneur,
also
founder
of Bing
Steel,
Inc.,
and the
Bing
Youth
Institute.
Detroit
City
Council
woman
Angela
Whitfield
Calloway
said
this was
the
perfect
event to
present
Dave
Bing
with the
well-deserved
Spirit
of
Detroit
award.
“The
collaboration
of Dave
Bing and
the
Detroit
Pistons
and
Hartford
Memorial
Baptist
Church
is a
win/win
for the
community
and the
city of
Detroit,”
said
Rev.
Charles
C.
Adams,
senior
pastor
of
Hartford
Memorial
Baptist
Church.
“Everyone
wins
with
this
partnership.”
Hartford
Memorial
Baptist
Church
continues
to give
back to
the
community
as it
partners
with
former
Mayor
Dave
Bing to
transform
the
former
Luger
Park,
owned by
Hartford
Church,
into the
Dave
Bing
Community
Park.
Located
near
Hartford
Church,
this is
a
partnership
that
will
serve
the
entire
community.
This was
a
fun-filled
day for
the
entire
family
with
Food,
games
and
giveaways;
The
Piston
Players
gave
away 100
Basket
Balls,
and 50
Wristbands
and
more.
