DETROIT - Vice President Harris, Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm and Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II traveled to Detroit, Michigan to announce new funding and resources for small and medium-sized auto manufacturers and autoworkers. The announcement was made as part of her Economic Opportunity Tour.

For years, manufacturing jobs in America have been lost to overseas, but President Biden and Vice President Harris's Investing in America agenda has changed that. Since taking office, companies have announced more than $170 billion in investments in electric vehicle (EV) and battery supply chain manufacturing, making the United States the global leader for EV manufacturing investment. Under the previous administration, the U.S. auto industry lost 90,000 jobs, but since Biden and Harris took office, over 250,000 jobs have been added. Additionally, more than 20 auto and battery plants have been announced.

The Big 3 Detroit automakers, Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis have secured historic contracts with the United Auto Workers, ensuring that these jobs of the future will provide comparable wages, retirement security, and respect at work. Recent organizing victories, like at Volkswagen in Chattanooga, Tennessee, also contribute to the growth of the industry, making the future of auto manufacturing in the United States a promising one.
