Conservancy’s
festive
Soirée
on the
Greenway
fundraiser
returns
to the
Dequindre
Cut
Freight
Yard on
October
6 from 6
to 10
p.m. for
a
masquerade
under
the
stars
featuring
delicious
food and
drink,
live
music
and
circus
performers,
a
costume
contest,
an
exotic
petting
zoo and
more
incredible
surprises.
Additionally,
Soirée
will
continue
the
Conservancy’s
20thanniversary
celebrations
with the
unveiling
of a new
anniversary-themed
mural on
the
Dequindre
Cut.
For the
second
year in
a row,
Soirée
will
serve as
an
exclusive
preview
of the
Detroit
Harvest
Fest &
Food
Truck
Rally as
guests
get the
opportunity
to
sample a
lineup
of
specially-curated
delicious
eats and
drinks.
The
Dequindre
Cut
Freight
Yard is
located
between
Division
Street
and the
Wilkins
Street
Plaza
along
the
Dequindre
Cut.
Soirée
is a
21-and-over
event.
Soirée
guests
are
encouraged
to don
their
most
creative
masquerade
masks
and
costumes
for the
event.
And this
year,
the
creativity
of the
best-dressed
guests
will be
celebrated
during a
costume
contest,
sponsored
by
Soaring
Eagle
Casino &
Resort.
The
grand
prize
will be
$500 and
a
weekend
stay at
Soaring
Eagle
Casino &
Resort.
Attendees

participating

enter
the
contest
at the
event.

first 25
Soirée
guests
will
receive
complimentary
one-of-a-kind
masquerade
masks
created
by local
artists.
This
year
marks
the
ninth
annual
Soirée
on the
Greenway,
and the
fourth
one in
which
Citizens
has
generously
supported
the
event as
Presenting

Public
Art
Unveiled
at
Soirée
In what
has
become a
popular
annual
Soirée
tradition,
guests
will be
among
the
first to
see a
colorful
new
mural
that
will be
unveiled
at the
event.
This
year’s
mural by
Detroit-based
artist
Joel
Grothaus
from
Signal
Return
will
commemorate
the
Detroit
Riverfront’s
20th
Anniversary.
Drawing
inspiration
from
Signal
Return’s
anniversary
letterpress
print,
the new
mural
will
serve as
a
colorful
and
permanent
display
of 20
years of
riverfront
revitalization.

transformed
into the
mysterious
Cirque
de
Freight
Yard,
featuring
circus
performers,
interactive
fall
experiences,
and live
music,
presented
by
Entertainment
Sponsor
Team
Rehabilitation
Physical
Therapy.
The
Motley
Misfits,
a
Michigan-based
circus-style
troupe,
will
have a
lineup
of
performers,
including
fire
dancers,
contortionists,
unicycle
riders
and
stilt
walkers.
Additionally,
guests
can get
a
glimpse
into
their
futures
with
tarot
card and
crystal
ball
readings.
Attendees
can also
test
their
skill at
the
Cirque
de
Freight
Yard
Arcade
with
classic
carnival
games
such as
Bank
Shot and
Stand A
Bottle.
Winners
will
receive
unique
riverfront
prizes
including
custom
playing
cards, a
knit
beanie
and
more.
The
Carnival
Arcade
is

New this
year to
the
Cirque
de
Freight
Yard
area is
a
roaming
exotic
petting
zoo
featuring
a
wallaby,
a mini
cow and
other
interesting
creatures
that
guests
can
interact
with as
they
stroll
the Cut.
Soirée
guests
can also
experience
the
thrill
of
riding a
mechanical
bull.
A
Bizarre
Musical
Performance
The
evening
of
interesting,
strange
and
eclectic
things
to see
and do
continues
at 7
p.m.
with a
memorable
and
bizarre
musical
performance
from the
Aston
Neighborhood
Pleasure
Club,
accompanied
by
Flames
N’ Dames
fire
dancers.
Parking
for
Soirée
is
available
in
nearby
lots and
on
neighboring
streets.
For
guests
who
choose
to bike
to the
event,
Wheelhouse
Detroit
will
operate
a
complimentary
bike
valet
service.

is a
fundraiser
for the
non-profit
Detroit
Riverfront
Conservancy,
which
serves
as the
perpetual
steward
of the
public
spaces
along
the
riverfront.

Conservancy
is
celebrating
20 years
of
revitalizing
and
transforming
the
Detroit
Riverfront
this
year.
