DETROIT – For the first time in its two-decade history, the Amazon Prep Kickoff Classic will spotlight girls' athletics with a dedicated Girls' Flag Football Showcase, marking a significant milestone for female sports participation in Michigan.

The showcase, scheduled for Thursday, August 28 at Tom Adams Field on Wayne State University's campus, features two matchups from the Michigan High School Girls Flag Football League: Gibraltar Carlson versus L'Anse Creuse North at 10:00 a.m., followed by Redford Union taking on St. Joseph at 11:05 a.m.

The initiative represents a partnership between new title sponsor Amazon, the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, and the Detroit Sports Commission's Living Legacy Initiative, which expands access to girls' sports throughout Metro Detroit.

"This is about creating opportunities and celebrating the incredible talent of female athletes in our region," said Marty Dobek, Executive Director of the Detroit Sports Commission. Amazon's Head of Community Affairs Ian Conyers will also participate in the event.

Team buses are expected to arrive at 9:30 a.m., with players welcomed through a spirited "cheer tunnel" – providing dynamic photo and video opportunities for media coverage.

The showcase precedes four traditional football matchups. Thursday afternoon features a rematch of last year's thriller between Belleville and Clarkston at 4 p.m., followed by Lake Orion versus Northville at 7 p.m. Friday's games include Allen Park versus Trenton at 4 p.m., and Detroit Cass Tech facing Toledo Central Catholic at 7 p.m.

The 20th anniversary tournament runs August 28-29 at Tom Adams Field (42 W. Warren Ave., Detroit), with team arrivals at 9:30 a.m. Thursday featuring a spirited "cheer tunnel" welcome.
