DETROIT - Detroit’s historic KRONK Gym is returning to national amateur boxing competition for the first time since its 2025 revival, with support from local sponsor Happy’s Pizza.

Fifteen fighters, ages 8 to 19, from the KRONK Amateur Boxing Team will compete in the King of the Jungle National Tournament, Aug. 5–8 in Grand Rapids. The event will feature hundreds of boxers from across the United States.

The sponsorship will cover travel costs and help expand opportunities for young athletes to compete at a national level, a key part of KRONK’s long-standing development model.

“KRONK has always represented far more than boxing,” said Happy Asker, founder and CEO of Happy’s Pizza parent company Happy Group. “Supporting these athletes is an investment in their future.”

Founded by Emanuel Steward, KRONK is one of boxing’s most recognized institutions, producing champions including Thomas Hearns, Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko.

Gym leaders say the tournament marks another step in rebuilding KRONK’s national presence and continuing its legacy of developing young fighters.
