Mahomes
secures
Chiefs
dynasty
by
winning
back-to-back
titles

VEGAS -
On
February
11,
2024,
the
Super
Bowl
LVIII
Most
Valuable
Player
award,
also
known as
the Pete
Rozelle
Trophy,
was
given to
Kansas
City
quarterback
Patrick
Mahomes.
He
completed
34 out
of 46
attempts,
which is
a 73.9%
completion
rate,
for 333
yards
and two
touchdowns.
He also
had a
rating
of 99.3
and
added 66
rushing
yards.
With his
efforts,
the
Chiefs
won the
game
25-22 in
overtime
after
overcoming
a
10-point
deficit.
This was
the
second
Super
Bowl to
go into
overtime,
and the
Chiefs
became
the
first
team to
win
back-to-back
Super
Bowl
championships
since
the
2003-04
New
England
Patriots.
In
total,
the
Chiefs
have
recorded
seven
comebacks
of 10 or
more
points
in Super
Bowl
history,
including
their
victories
in Super
Bowl LIV
and
LVII.
Mahomes
has also
been
named
the MVP
of those
two
Super
Bowls,
making
him the
third
player
to win
three
Super
Bowl
Most
Valuable
Player
awards.
The
other
two
players
are Tom
Brady,
who has
five,
and Pro
Football
Hall of
Famer
Joe
Montana,
who has
three.
Mahomes
is also
the
third
player
in
history
to win
the
Super
Bowl MVP
award in
consecutive
seasons,
joining
Pro
Football
Hall of
Famers
Bart
Starr
(Super
Bowls I
and II)
and
Terry
Bradshaw
(Super
Bowls
XIII and
XIV).
Mahomes
is now
the
fifth
quarterback
to win
at least
three
Super
Bowl
titles,
joining
Brady
(seven),
as well
as Pro
Football
Hall of
Famers
Bradshaw
(four),
Montana
(four),
and Troy
Aikman
(three).
The
Super
Bowl
Most
Valuable
Player
award is
chosen
by a
panel of
16 media
members,
including
CBS and
Westwood
One
analysts,
media
from Las
Vegas,
Kansas
City,
and San
Francisco,
PFWA-appointed
pool
reporters
that
have
attended
team
practice
sessions
during
Super
Bowl
week,
past Pro
Football
Writers
of
America
presidents,
at-large
members
of the
national
media,
and fans
who
interactively
vote
through
the
National
Football
League's
official
website,
NFL.com.
With
this
win,
Mahomes
recorded
his 15th
career
postseason
win,
which
trails
only
Brady
(35) and
Montana
(16) for
the most
postseason
wins by
a
quarterback
of all
time. It
is also
worth
noting
that a
quarterback
has been
named
Super
Bowl
Most
Valuable
Player
33 times
in
history.
