Patrick Mahomes secures Chiefs dynasty by winning back-to-back titles

LAS VEGAS - On February 11, 2024, the Super Bowl LVIII Most Valuable Player award, also known as the Pete Rozelle Trophy, was given to Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He completed 34 out of 46 attempts, which is a 73.9% completion rate, for 333 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a rating of 99.3 and added 66 rushing yards. With his efforts, the Chiefs won the game 25-22 in overtime after overcoming a 10-point deficit. This was the second Super Bowl to go into overtime, and the Chiefs became the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowl championships since the 2003-04 New England Patriots.

In total, the Chiefs have recorded seven comebacks of 10 or more points in Super Bowl history, including their victories in Super Bowl LIV and LVII. Mahomes has also been named the MVP of those two Super Bowls, making him the third player to win three Super Bowl Most Valuable Player awards. The other two players are Tom Brady, who has five, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Montana, who has three. Mahomes is also the third player in history to win the Super Bowl MVP award in consecutive seasons, joining Pro Football Hall of Famers Bart Starr (Super Bowls I and II) and Terry Bradshaw (Super Bowls XIII and XIV).

Mahomes is now the fifth quarterback to win at least three Super Bowl titles, joining Brady (seven), as well as Pro Football Hall of Famers Bradshaw (four), Montana (four), and Troy Aikman (three). The Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award is chosen by a panel of 16 media members, including CBS and Westwood One analysts, media from Las Vegas, Kansas City, and San Francisco, PFWA-appointed pool reporters that have attended team practice sessions during Super Bowl week, past Pro Football Writers of America presidents, at-large members of the national media, and fans who interactively vote through the National Football League's official website, NFL.com.

With this win, Mahomes recorded his 15th career postseason win, which trails only Brady (35) and Montana (16) for the most postseason wins by a quarterback of all time. It is also worth noting that a quarterback has been named Super Bowl Most Valuable Player 33 times in history.
