The
Snowbirds
nonprofit
organization
hosted
its 5th
Annual
Golf
Tournament
Weekend
at the
prestigious
PGA
National
Resort
January
29–31,
2026,
raising
$47,500
to
support
youth
golf
organizations
and
programs.
The
three-day
event
drew
more
than 200
participants
and
continued
the
group’s
mission
to
expand
access
to golf
for
underprivileged
youth
through
equipment,
instruction,
scholarships
and
competitive
opportunities.
Tracey
Slavonia,
Chief
Sales
and
Marketing
Officer
for
Salamander
Collection,
welcomed
attendees
on
behalf
of
resort
owner
Sheila
Johnson,
highlighting
the
importance
of
partnerships
that use
the game
of golf
to
create
educational
and
life-skill
pathways
for
young
people.
Frank
Hayden,
Director
of
Procurement
for the
City of
West
Palm
Beach,
also
greeted
the
group on
behalf
of Mayor
Keith A.
James,
underscoring
the
city’s
support
for
initiatives
that
invest
in youth
development.
Wayne
County
Sheriff
Raphael
Washington
and
Wayne
County
Commissioner
Monique
Baker-McCormick
presented
a
proclamation
and
resolution
recognizing
The
Snowbirds
for its
service,
leadership
and
meaningful
contributions
to youth
development
through
education
and the
game of
golf.
The
recognition
celebrated
the
organization’s
growing
impact
in both
Michigan
and
beyond.
Over the
weekend,
The
Snowbirds
awarded
$10,000
to the
Michigan
Women’s
Golf
Association
(MWGA)
LPGA
Girls
Golf
Program,
which
has
introduced
golf to
girls
ages
7–17
from
underserved
communities
for more
than 18
years.
Each
year,
the MWGA
program
equips
63
junior
golfers
with
clubs
and
delivers
nine
weeks of
instruction
led by
LPGA and
PGA
teaching
professionals,
helping
young
players
build
confidence,
discipline
and
leadership
skills.
Additional
donations
included
$9,500
to Cass
Technical
High
School’s
golf
efforts
and
$8,083
to
College
Career &
Beyond |
Midnight
Golf
Program,
which
combines
life
skills,
mentoring
and the
game of
golf to
prepare
students
for
college
and
careers.
The
Snowbirds
also
awarded
$8,583
to First
Tee –
Greater
Detroit,
which
uses
golf to
teach
character
and life
values,
and
presented
aspiring
professional
golfer
Staci
Pla with
a $2,500
donation
to
support
her
competitive
journey.
In
February,
The
Snowbirds
will
extend
their
reach
nationally
with an
$8,834
donation
to the
National
NAACP
Golf
Program,
further
aligning
the
organization
with
efforts
to
promote
diversity
and
inclusion
in the
sport.
With
these
latest
awards,
The
Snowbirds
will
have
contributed
approximately
$272,500
to
youth-focused
golf
initiatives
over the
past
five
years,
reflecting
a
sustained
commitment
to
opening
fairways
and
future
opportunities
for
young
people
who
might
otherwise
be left
on the
sidelines.
