PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — The Snowbirds nonprofit organization hosted its 5th Annual Golf Tournament Weekend at the prestigious PGA National Resort January 29–31, 2026, raising $47,500 to support youth golf organizations and programs. The three-day event drew more than 200 participants and continued the group’s mission to expand access to golf for underprivileged youth through equipment, instruction, scholarships and competitive opportunities.

Tracey Slavonia, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for Salamander Collection, welcomed attendees on behalf of resort owner Sheila Johnson, highlighting the importance of partnerships that use the game of golf to create educational and life-skill pathways for young people. Frank Hayden, Director of Procurement for the City of West Palm Beach, also greeted the group on behalf of Mayor Keith A. James, underscoring the city’s support for initiatives that invest in youth development.

Wayne County Sheriff Raphael Washington and Wayne County Commissioner Monique Baker-McCormick presented a proclamation and resolution recognizing The Snowbirds for its service, leadership and meaningful contributions to youth development through education and the game of golf. The recognition celebrated the organization’s growing impact in both Michigan and beyond.

Over the weekend, The Snowbirds awarded $10,000 to the Michigan Women’s Golf Association (MWGA) LPGA Girls Golf Program, which has introduced golf to girls ages 7–17 from underserved communities for more than 18 years. Each year, the MWGA program equips 63 junior golfers with clubs and delivers nine weeks of instruction led by LPGA and PGA teaching professionals, helping young players build confidence, discipline and leadership skills.

Additional donations included $9,500 to Cass Technical High School’s golf efforts and $8,083 to College Career & Beyond | Midnight Golf Program, which combines life skills, mentoring and the game of golf to prepare students for college and careers. The Snowbirds also awarded $8,583 to First Tee – Greater Detroit, which uses golf to teach character and life values, and presented aspiring professional golfer Staci Pla with a $2,500 donation to support her competitive journey.

In February, The Snowbirds will extend their reach nationally with an $8,834 donation to the National NAACP Golf Program, further aligning the organization with efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in the sport. With these latest awards, The Snowbirds will have contributed approximately $272,500 to youth-focused golf initiatives over the past five years, reflecting a sustained commitment to opening fairways and future opportunities for young people who might otherwise be left on the sidelines.
