DETROIT - Cade Cunningham scored 25 points and delivered 10 assists, Tobias Harris added 21 points, and the Detroit Pistons beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 107-97 in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series Thursday night at Little Caesars Arena. Detroit led nearly wire to wire in front of a sellout crowd of 20,062, and the Pistons now head to Cleveland with a 2-0 series lead.

Cunningham controlled the fourth quarter as Detroit answered every Cleveland push. He scored 12 points in the final period and finished 7 of 14 from the field, while Duncan Robinson added 17 points and Jalen Duren posted 8 points and 10 rebounds for the Pistons. Detroit shot 48.8% overall and hit 14 of 28 from 3-point range, a major edge in a game that featured 14 lead changes only once the Cavaliers briefly threatened.

Cleveland was led by Donovan Mitchell, who finished with 31 points on 11 of 24 shooting, while Jarrett Allen had 22 points and Evan Mobley added 9. The Cavaliers shot 42% from the field but went 7 of 32 from 3-point range and were outscored 13-4 in fast-break points. Cleveland also committed 11 turnovers, and Detroit turned those mistakes into 10 points.

Detroit built its biggest lead at 14 points and answered Cleveland’s fourth-quarter rally with timely shot-making and defensive plays. Ausar Thompson supplied 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals, and Daniss Jenkins gave the Pistons a lift off the bench with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.

The game took 2 hours and 30 minutes and was officiated by Zach Zarba, Curtis Blair, Karl Lane, and Sean Corbin. The Cavaliers were again without Sam Merrill, who was listed as out with a left hamstring strain, while Kevin Huerter remained inactive for Detroit.

Game 3 shifts to Cleveland, where the Cavaliers will try to avoid falling into a 3-0 hole in the best-of-seven series.
