DETROIT
- The
Minnesota
Twins
bounced
back
from an
early
deficit
to
defeat
the
Detroit
Tigers
9-4 on
Wednesday
night at
Comerica
Park,
with
standout
rookie
Luke
Keaschall
continuing
his
impressive
start to
his
major
league
career.
Keaschall
drove in
three
runs for
the
second
straight
game,
helping
the
Twins
secure
their
second
consecutive
victory
in the
series.
The
rookie
is now
hitting
.393 in
his
nine-game
major
league
career,
which
was
interrupted
in April
by a
broken
arm
before
he
returned
on
Tuesday.
The
Twins
jumped
out to
an early
lead,
taking a
2-0
advantage
in the
first
inning
when
Alan
Roden
and Matt
Wallner
started
with
singles,
and
Keaschall
drove
them
home
with a
two-out
double.
Minnesota
extended
their
lead to
3-0 in
the
second
inning
before
the
Tigers
mounted
their
comeback.
Detroit
answered
with
three
unanswered
runs to
take a
4-3
lead.
Spencer
Torkelson
launched
his 24th
home run
of the
season
in the
second
inning,
followed
by Zach
McKinstry's
leadoff
homer in
the
third
and
Kerry
Carpenter's
two-run
shot
later in
the same
frame.
However,
the
Twins
regained
control
and
pulled
away for
the
victory.
Jack
Flaherty
took the
loss for
Detroit,
surrendering
six runs
in 4⅔
innings
pitched.
A
critical
moment
came in
the
eighth
inning
when the
Tigers
had
runners
on first
and
third
with one
out and
their
3-4-5
hitters
due up,
but
manager
A.J.
Hinch's
decision
to
pinch-hit
Jahmai
Jones
for
Carpenter
backfired
when
Jones
grounded
into an
inning-ending
double
play.
Keaschall's
hot
start
has been
historically
significant
for the
Twins
organization.
He has
reached
base in
his
first
nine
career
games,
the
second-longest
streak
in Twins
history
behind
Glenn
Williams,
who
reached
base in
his
first 13
games in
2005.
Both
teams
are
scheduled
to be
off
Thursday
before
beginning
weekend
home
series
on
Friday.
The
Twins
will
host the
Kansas
City
Royals
while
the
Tigers
welcome
the Los
Angeles
Angels
to
Comerica
Park.
