ANN
ARBOR -
A
college
football
insider
has
placed
the
blame
for
Michigan's
"average
performance"
this
season
squarely
on
former
head
coach
Jim
Harbaugh.
Andy
Staples
of On3
was
candid
about
the
reasons
for the
Wolverines'
struggles,
pointing
to
Harbaugh's
delayed
decision-making
regarding
his
future.
"Jim
Harbaugh
delayed
his
decision.
His
timeline
was
aligned
with the
NFL, not
with the
transfer
portal,”
Staples
explained
on the
Dan
Patrick
Show. He
emphasized
that
Harbaugh
did not
adequately
consider
the
implications
of his
potential
departure
on the
Wolverines'
preparations
for the
season.
"The
time
that
could
have
been
spent
determining
who the
starting
quarterback
would
be, or
finding
a
quarterback
in the
transfer
portal
if they
weren't
satisfied
with
their
existing
roster—which
they
weren't—was
wasted
because
they
were
waiting
for Jim
Harbaugh
to
decide
whether
he was
going to
stay or
leave.
That was
the main
issue."
Despite
the
challenges,
Staples
expressed
some
optimism
about
Michigan's
future,
particularly
regarding
Sherrone
Moore,
Harbaugh's
successor.
"I don’t
blame
Sherrone
Moore
for this
year’s
roster
because
he had
little
opportunity
to
address
it. What
he does
this
offseason
will
reveal a
lot
more,"
Staples
noted.
A key
factor
in
Moore's
success
will
depend
on
Michigan's
ability
to
secure a
commitment
from
quarterback
prospect
Bryce
Underwood.
Underwood's
recent
actions
have
sparked
conflicting
rumors
about
his
loyalty
to
Michigan.
The
Bellville
star
quarterback's
high
school
has
recently
hired
Connor
Stallions,
raising
speculation
among
recruiting
experts
that a
commitment
flip
might
occur.
Additionally,
Underwood,
who has
a NIL
valuation
of $10.5
million,
is
visiting
the LSU
Tigers
this
weekend
for
their
game and
is
reportedly
showing
considerable
interest
in
joining
their
program.
This has
led
recruiting
analysts
to
believe
he may
ultimately
choose
to sign
with
LSU.
Sherrone
Moore is
making
every
effort
to
retain
Underwood,
as he
would
serve as
a
cornerstone
for the
Wolverines’
roster.
Until
Underwood
officially
signs
with
Michigan,
the
outcome
of
Moore's
first
recruiting
cycle
remains
uncertain.
